The history of this shoe dates back to the end of the 18th century, when shoes with rubber soles were made. Then they were called canvas shoes, they were very rough and quite primitive, while they were not divided into right and left legs. Already in 1895, Joseph William Foster developed the first model of sports shoes with spikes in England, and in 1892 the American Rubber Company created more comfortable shoes with rubber soles and textile upper. This model received the so-called name “sneakers”. By 1917, these shoes began to be mass-produced under the name “sneakers,” since the man in their shoes walked so quietly that he could go unnoticed to anyone.
