Use of GORE-TEX® in shoes

The main properties of the GORE-TEX® membrane:
• Long keeps water tight
• actively breathing
• Extremely frost resistant
• Extremely bend resistant
• Extremely durable

Shoes are dry because they are water tight
The secret is that the GORE-TEX® membrane is microporous. On each square centimeter, which roughly corresponds to the area of the nail, there are 1.4 billion tiny pores. These pores are approximately 20,000 times smaller than a drop of water, and therefore moisture outside cannot penetrate shoes.

Shoes are dry because they breathe
GORE-TEX® membrane allows steam to pass through freely. Its pores are approximately 700 times larger than water vapor molecules, so that steam (sweat) can freely leave the shoe.
Depending on the shoe model and environmental conditions, the foot at rest produces about 1/4 cup of sweat per day, and with increased physical exertion – even up to 1/2 cup.

With the insufficient ability of the system to pass air inside the shoe, unpleasant moisture accumulates. To protect the foot from overheating and hypothermia, the moisture formed should be able to go outside. The GORE-TEX® membrane, even at high physical exertion, provides a quick removal of water vapor (sweat) and, accordingly, a pleasant “microclimate” in shoes.

Feet in GORE-TEX® shoes can breathe freely
Not only appearance is important in shoes, but, first of all, its “internal” advantages. Shoes with a GORE-TEX® membrane have long-term water resistance, and at the same time they can breathe! A big advantage over traditional shoes: moisture cannot penetrate externally through the membrane, and water vapor – the product of the natural release of sweat from the foot – comes out through microscopic pores. No dampness, no moisture, pleasant temperature and dry feet are guaranteed.

To keep your feet warm
The results of competitive comparisons show a clear advantage of functional shoes equipped with a GORE-TEX® membrane. This is not surprising, since the requirements imposed by us on the quality of the membrane apply equally to every detail of the shoe – from the material for the exterior and to the holes for lacing.

To ensure this high quality standard throughout the supply chain, Gore works only with licensed partners.

Gore Quality Management System:
• Cooperation only with licensed manufacturers of branded products
• Use of high quality materials
• Patented processing technology
• Continuous functional testing of prototypes and serial production.
